Generating PDF Document Statistics Reports with AutoPageX™
Introduction
The "Statistics" tools within the AutoPageX™ plug-in can be used to quickly generate useful reports containing lots of detail about one or more input files. The reports list information such as: file size, page size, page count, and the number of bookmarks/annotations/links etc. present in the document(s).
In the tutorial steps below, we will demonstrate how to use these tools to generate statistics reports for single/multiple documents, and how to count words in multiple files in one quick operation. All reports can optionally be saved as *.txt files to keep records of document content.
Prerequisites
You need a copy of Adobe® Acrobat® along with the AutoPageX™ plug-in installed on your computer in order to use this tutorial. Both are available as trial versions.
Step 1 - Open the 'Statistics' Menu
Open Acrobat and select "Plug-Ins > AutoPagex Plug-in > Statistics > ..." to access the list of available report generators. To create a report "For Current File...", the necessary document must already be open in Acrobat.
Step 2 - Create a Report for a Currently Open File
With the necessary document open in Acrobat, select "Plug-Ins > AutoPagex Plug-in > Statistics > For Current File..." from the main menu (see image above). The "File Report" dialog will open, listing statistical details about the document. Scroll down to inspect all of the generated content.
Optionally press "Save Report..." to save this information as a *.txt file.
Press "OK" to close the report.
Step 3 - Optional: Save a Report
After pressing "Save Report..." in the "File Report" dialog (see image above), the user is prompted to choose a location for the saved report. Select a suitable folder and file name, then press "Save".
Open the file to view its content - it will be opened in the default text editor (e.g.: MS Notepad).
Step 4 - Create a Report for Multiple Files
To create a single report containing statistical details for multiple files, select "Plug-Ins > AutoPagex Plug-in > Statistics > For Multiple Files..." from the main menu (see first image).
Use the file explorer window that opens to locate and select all necessary files, then press "Open".
Inspect the generated report and press "OK" to close it.
Step 5 - Count Words in Multiple Files
To create a single report that counts all words in multiple files at once, select "Plug-Ins > AutoPagex Plug-in > Statistics > Count Words in Multiple Files..." from the main menu (see first image).
Use the file explorer window that opens to locate and select all necessary files, then press "Open".
Inspect the generated report displaying a total word count, page count, and a breakdown of total words in each input file. Press "OK" to close it.
